The History of Dragon Watch

Dragon Watch Device

In the year AS XX, our founder Geoffery Athos Von Ulm crossed paths with the dubious yet entertaining Master Tryggvi Halftrollson Will Travel. This fated meeting (some say ill-fated) began a friendly rivalry between the two yet-to-be legends. Master Tryggvi had founded a small yet fierce band of Viking marauders known as Drafn. To counter this vulgar presence, Athos gave a call to arms. We answered and Dragon Watch was born. A band of mercenaries of various backgrounds, we found ourselves thrust upon the field of battle at the first Potrero war. Marching behind the pipes of William Harriman, we gazed across the field at our adversaries and saw the screaming chicken of Drafn. Again and again we charged. Again and again we died. The laughter of Master Tryggvi echoed in our ears and solidified our resolve to make a good accounting of ourselves.

Around the post-battle fire, we were visited by the Sietch Persistent and their captain Sir Yarislov. Once we tasted the delightful Vodka-based refreshments of our cossack friends, the pains of the day became a faded memory - we knew the joy of war and longed for the song of battle (and the York Bangers of the Setch). Our loyalty had been won. We would follow our captain anywhere.

The members of Dragon Watch then were all members of the mundane military in the Shire of Burnung Sands. Our orders came one by one scattering us to the winds. “Thomas!” called Geoffry “I charge you with a sacred task. You will be a Herald-at-Large until providence plants your feet firmly. You will then form another unit of Dragon Watch. All of us will form new units around the Knowne World. We will come together at times of war and stand as brothers.”

I took my task and ignored it completely for 15 years. Providence found me in the Barony of Angels in the Kingdom of CAID when my bride and her sister asked me if I had heard of the SCA. The fires rekindled instantly and I took up my captain’s charge. Putting hammer to steele and reviving the Nowed Wurm, I sent out the call to arms. Many answered and we took the field (two of us) at GWW IX. We stood on the field of Estrella XXII, Spring Potrero 2006, Darkwell 2006, Highland War, and Estrella XXIII. At Potrero 07 five of us marched onto the field. As I stood gazing at our adversaries, the screaming chicken of Drafn among them, the laughter of Master Tryggvi echoed through time to burn my ears. We killed many Drafn that day. After the fighting; we toasted our old captain, Geoffry Athos Von Ulm (now a baron in the kingdom of Atlantia). I gave a silent toast to Master Tryggvi Halftrollson Will Travel and Sir Yarislov.

We have returned.
